About ASLTyping

A place to learn, create, practice and connect.

Welcome to ASLTyping.

ASLTyping is a growing educational and technology platform created to make American Sign Language (ASL) learning more accessible, practical, creative, and enjoyable.

Our goal is not simply to publish information. We want to build a useful place where people can learn, practice, create, explore, build skills, discover resources, and eventually find opportunities and connect with people.

Learn. Practice. Create. Explore. Connect.

ASLTyping brings together educational content, digital tools, visual learning resources, interactive activities, games, creative features, and practical resources in one place.

We are still growing. We are still learning. And we believe some of the most meaningful parts of this journey are still ahead of us.

Our Story

The story behind ASLTyping began long before this website existed.

Our founder’s journey with computers started in 2003. What began as an interest in technology gradually became a professional path involving computer studies, agency work, freelancing, development, programming, web technologies, automation, digital design, and eventually building and managing an independent agency.

Over the years, that journey involved many different projects and many different people. Some projects developed technical skills. Some developed creative skills. And some changed the way our founder thought about what technology could actually do for people.

At different stages of that journey, our founder had opportunities to work on projects connected with Deaf and hard-of-hearing people, educational materials, local schools, and related design work.

There was also experience creating books and educational materials while working in a professional printing environment.

Those experiences gradually created a deeper interest in the connection between education, communication, accessibility, creativity, and technology.

What if technology and design skills could be used to make learning resources easier to find, easier to use, and more enjoyable?

That question eventually helped lead to ASLTyping.

An Important Note About Who We Are

Transparency matters to us.

Our founder is not Deaf and does not claim to be an ASL expert, certified interpreter, professional linguist, or representative of the Deaf community.

Our founder’s primary professional background is in:

  • Technology
  • Development
  • Programming
  • Automation
  • Digital design
  • Web development
  • Building user-friendly digital products

ASLTyping was created by bringing those skills together with research, learning, educational resources, and a desire to build something useful.

We continue to learn.

American Sign Language deserves respect as a complete natural language with its own grammar, structure, history, culture, and community.

We do not want to create artificial authority by claiming expertise we do not have. Instead, we want to contribute through the areas where we can genuinely provide value: technology, design, digital tools, organization, creativity, and continuous improvement.

Why We Created ASLTyping

The internet contains a huge amount of information. But having information available does not always mean that information is easy to use.

A learner may need a simple practice tool. A parent may need an understandable resource. A teacher may need educational material. Someone may want to practice fingerspelling. Another person may want a visual reference.

Someone else may learn better through a game rather than a long article.

We saw an opportunity to bring different types of resources together in a more organized and interactive way.

We want people to be able to come here and do something, not simply read something.

What You Can Do on ASLTyping

ASLTyping is being developed as a collection of practical learning and creative resources.

ASL Gloss and Grammar Resources

Resources and tools designed to help learners explore ASL-related sentence structure, gloss, grammar concepts, and learning examples.

ASL Picture Dictionary

A visual resource designed to help visitors explore ASL-related vocabulary and information in an organized way.

Fingerspelling Word Generator

A practical way to explore and practice fingerspelled words.

ASL Fingerspelling Image Generator

A creative tool that can help users generate visual fingerspelling-based materials for learning and appropriate creative projects.

ASL Practice Games

Interactive practice can make repetition much more enjoyable. Our games are designed to help learners practice while staying engaged.

Educational Articles and Guides

We continue to develop helpful resources covering the ASL alphabet, numbers, basic words, fingerspelling, sentence structure, common expressions, learning strategies, and other useful topics.

Worksheets and Downloadable Resources

Our long-term plans include expanding printable and downloadable learning resources for learners, families, and educators.

Learning Should Be Enjoyable

We believe learning becomes easier when people actually want to continue.

That is why ASLTyping is not intended to feel like a digital textbook made only of long pages of text.

We want to combine learning with visuals, interaction, practice, creativity, games, and useful technology.

A learner may read an explanation today. Tomorrow, they may play a game. Another day, they may generate a visual resource or practice a word.

Different people learn differently. Our goal is to provide more than one way to explore.

For Learners

If you are beginning your ASL learning journey, welcome.

You do not need to learn everything at once. Start somewhere simple. Explore the alphabet. Practice fingerspelling. Learn a few useful words. Try a game. Read about sentence structure. Use one of our tools.

Then return and learn something else.

Small steps can build confidence.

For Parents and Families

Parents and families often play an important role in learning.

As ASLTyping develops, we want to make it easier for families to discover simple learning materials, visual resources, practice activities, worksheets, interactive tools, and child-friendly educational content.

Parents and guardians should always decide what is appropriate for an individual child and supervise online activity where appropriate.

For Teachers and Educators

Teachers do much more than teach.

They search for resources, prepare lessons, create activities, design worksheets, and constantly find new ways to keep learners interested.

We hope ASLTyping can make a small part of that work easier.

Our long-term plans include:

  • Printable worksheets
  • Activity materials
  • Workbooks
  • Visual resources
  • Classroom-friendly tools
  • Educational designs
  • Practice games
  • Other teaching resources

Free Tools With a Bigger Purpose

We believe useful technology should not always be complicated.

Sometimes a simple digital tool can solve a very practical problem.

We want our tools to help people learn something, practice something, create something, or build a useful skill.

Where the relevant tool permits it, some generated outputs may also be suitable for creative projects, social media, websites, educational materials, digital content, or certain lawful commercial uses.

A Note About Content and Copyright

We want people to use and share ASLTyping responsibly.

Sharing links to useful ASLTyping pages and tools is welcome. However, different resources may have different copyright and usage rules.

For example, our ASL Picture Dictionary may contain protected original images, information, organization, and other content.

Accessing the dictionary does not automatically give permission to copy its images or database and republish them on another website, application, product, or service.

At the same time, certain ASLTyping tools may specifically allow users to download and use the outputs they create.

Please review our Terms of Use and Copyright / DMCA Policy for more information.

More Than an Educational Website

ASLTyping began with learning resources, but our long-term vision is larger.

Education + Technology + Creativity + Career + Community

Learning a skill can be valuable by itself. But sometimes that skill can lead somewhere else.

It may lead to creativity. It may help someone teach. It may contribute to a project. It may become part of someone’s professional development. It may even help someone discover an opportunity.

We want ASLTyping to gradually explore those connections.

From Learning to Opportunity

Our future vision includes resources that may help people discover more than educational content.

Over time, ASLTyping may explore areas such as:

  • Career information
  • Jobs and opportunities
  • Useful services
  • Educational events
  • Community information
  • Books and learning materials
  • Creative resources
  • Relevant products
  • Professional resources

Helping People Find What They Need

One idea is especially important to us:

People should be able to find people and resources that can help them.

A student may be looking for a teacher. A parent may be searching for a useful learning resource. A teacher may need educational material. A job seeker may be looking for an opportunity.

A skilled person may have a useful service to offer, while an organization may be looking for people with relevant experience.

Over time, we would love for ASLTyping to help make some of those connections easier.

Respecting the People Behind the Language

ASL is connected to real people and real communities.

We believe educational technology should respect that.

We do not want Deaf, hard-of-hearing, or speech-disabled people to be presented as people whose lives should be defined only by limitations.

Every person has individual abilities, goals, experiences, identities, and potential.

A website cannot represent every person’s experience. But it can try to make information easier to access, create useful tools, support learning, and help people discover resources.

We Are Still Learning Too

ASLTyping is not a finished project. Neither are we.

Our approach is simple:

  • If we make a mistake, correct it.
  • If an important resource is missing, try to add it.
  • If better technology becomes available, explore how to use it responsibly.
  • If knowledgeable people teach us something, listen.

Constructive feedback is welcome.

Meet the People Behind ASLTyping

ASLTyping began with the vision of its founder, but we do not want the platform to be defined as the work of only one person.

Building a useful website can involve research, development, programming, design, testing, content creation, editing, maintenance, technical support, corrections, and community feedback.

That is why throughout ASLTyping you may see us refer to “we,” “our,” and “our team.”

Our founder may have started the journey, but meaningful growth requires collaboration.

Collaboration Is Welcome

We are interested in thoughtful collaboration with people and organizations who can help make ASLTyping more useful.

This may include:

  • ASL users
  • Deaf and hard-of-hearing people
  • ASL teachers and interpreters
  • Educators and researchers
  • Parents and learners
  • Developers and designers
  • Creators
  • Schools and nonprofits
  • Community organizations

If you have expertise, feedback, a project idea, or a constructive proposal, we are open to hearing from you.

Resources for Educators and Creative Projects

As ASLTyping grows, we hope to create more materials for teachers, parents, learners, and educational organizations.

These may include worksheets, workbooks, journals, activity books, visual learning materials, educational graphics, interactive resources, and creative digital projects.

A Future Newsletter

We also plan to develop a newsletter for people who want to stay connected with ASLTyping.

Our future newsletter may include ASL learning resources, new tools, website updates, educational content, interesting community information, useful opportunities, and occasional fun or creative resources.

We do not want a newsletter that exists only to fill someone’s inbox. If we send something, we want there to be a reason to open it.

Our Approach to Technology and AI

ASLTyping is a technology-driven project.

We may use software, automation, AI-assisted systems, and other modern technologies in parts of our development and content workflow.

These technologies can be useful, but useful does not mean perfect. Automated systems can make mistakes, and AI can generate inaccurate information.

Use technology where it helps. Understand its limitations. Review important information. Correct problems when we find them.

Technology should support people. People should not be expected to blindly trust technology.

Editorial Transparency

We aim to:

  • Research important topics
  • Use reliable sources where appropriate
  • Distinguish learning aids from professional advice
  • Avoid pretending to have expertise we do not have
  • Correct meaningful errors
  • Disclose commercial relationships
  • Improve content when better information becomes available

Not every ASLTyping article is reviewed by a certified ASL professional, and we do not want to imply otherwise.

As we grow, we hope to work with more knowledgeable contributors and subject-matter experts.

How ASLTyping May Support Itself

Many ASLTyping resources are intended to remain freely accessible.

Operating a growing website, however, requires resources for hosting, security, development, maintenance, research, design, software, and creating new materials.

To help support these costs, ASLTyping may use advertising, affiliate relationships, sponsorships, partnerships, products, services, or other appropriate forms of monetization.

We believe monetization and usefulness can coexist when commercial relationships are handled transparently.

Our Future

There are many things we still want to build.

More learning tools. More games. More visual resources. More worksheets. More books. More resources for parents and teachers. More opportunities for creativity. More useful information.

And eventually, more ways for people to connect with resources, opportunities, services, and one another.

We do not expect to build everything overnight. We would rather build carefully, learn from mistakes, and improve gradually.

You Are Part of This Journey

A website is not useful simply because someone builds it. It becomes useful when people actually use it.

Every person who learns something here, practices with a tool, plays a game, shares a useful resource, reports an error, suggests an improvement, teaches us something, or returns another day becomes part of the ASLTyping journey.

That includes you.

A Personal Thank You from Our Founder

If you have reached this part of the page, I want to thank you personally.

My journey with computers began in 2003. Since then, I have studied, worked, freelanced, worked with agencies, built projects, learned development, explored programming and automation, worked with design, and eventually built my own professional path.

Technology has changed enormously during that time.

But one lesson has become clearer to me:

Skills become more meaningful when we can use them to make something useful for another person.

That idea is very close to the heart of ASLTyping.

I am not an ASL expert. I am a technology person who decided to use the skills and experience I have to try to create something useful—and to continue learning while doing it.

ASLTyping is still young. There are many things our team wants to improve, many resources we still want to build, many people we hope to learn from, and many ideas that may take years to develop properly.

But if one person learns something useful here, that matters.

If a child enjoys practicing instead of feeling frustrated, that matters.

If a parent finds a resource they were searching for, that matters.

If a teacher saves a little time, that matters.

If someone develops a new skill or discovers an opportunity, that matters.

And if ASLTyping eventually becomes a place where people can not only learn but also create, grow, discover opportunities, and find one another, then this journey will have become something much bigger than the website I originally imagined.

Thank you for visiting.

Thank you for trusting our work.

Thank you for giving our team the opportunity to keep learning and improving.

If you notice a mistake, please tell us. If you have an idea, share it. If you have knowledge that can help us improve, we are willing to listen.

And as we continue building this platform, I have one personal request:

Please keep me, our team, and ASLTyping in your prayers and good wishes.

May we have the knowledge to build useful things, the humility to correct our mistakes, the patience to keep learning, and the opportunity to create something that genuinely benefits people.

With gratitude and warm wishes,
Founder, ASLTyping
On behalf of the entire ASLTyping team

We are glad you are here.
